Pass-Through Charges

A Walk-through

The Regulated Charges and Levies applicable to the Republic of Ireland electricity market for the 2026/2027 charging year have now been confirmed. These changes will take effect from 1 October 2026 and will be reflected in your bills from this date.

Pass-Through Charges Explained

Electricity suppliers in Ireland are required to pay a range of regulated charges, market costs and government levies, which are passed through to customers as part of their electricity bill.

Regulated Pass-Through Charges include charges set by ESB Networks, EirGrid, the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) and other industry bodies. These charges are approved by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) and are applied in accordance with the terms of your contract. Other regulated costs, including Capacity Market charges and market-related charges arising from the Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM), are administered through SEMO and approved by the relevant regulatory authorities.

These charges are reviewed and updated periodically, with any approved changes applied in line with regulatory decisions and market requirements.

Pass-Through charges include

  • Transmission Use of System (TUoS)
  • Distribution Use of System (DUoS)
  • Public Service Obligation (PSO)
  • Supplier Capacity Charges
  • Residual Error Volume Price
  • Currency Cost Price and Currency Adjustment Charge Factor
  • Market Operator Charges (MO)
  • Imperfection Charges

How the Changes in Pass-Through Costs will Impact My Premises

The Pass-Through Charges that apply to your electricity supply, and any changes to those charges from 1 October 2026, depend on the DUoS Group(s) (DG) assigned to your premise(s) by ESB Networks. You can find your DUoS Group(s) on your electricity bill.

Please refer to the table corresponding to your DUOS Group, which reflects the changes effective from 1 October 2026.
