Ireland’s New Solar & Battery Grants: What They Mean For Your Home and Wallet
If you’ve been thinking about switching to solar energy, the Government’s latest budget announcements just made your decision a whole lot easier. A massive €1.28 billion investment package in the secure, sustainable energy sector has unlocked game-changing upgrades to home energy supports across Ireland.
At Flogas Energy, as both your trusted energy provider and expert SEAI-registered solar installers, we are here to break down exactly what these new grants mean for you—and how you can maximize your long-term household savings.
The New €600 SEAI Home Battery Grant is Officially Live
The biggest news coming out of the recent announcement is the introduction of a dedicated, flat-rate €600 Battery Energy Storage System Grant through the SEAI.
- How it works: If you install a qualifying battery storage system of 5kWh or larger, you instantly qualify for a flat €600 off.
- Why it matters: Solar panels capture immense energy during the daylight hours. A smart battery allows you to store that excess power and use it when your home needs it most—like running appliances during peak evening hours or charging your EV overnight.
For existing solar owners: Already have solar panels but skipped the battery? Good news. You can apply for this new €600 grant separately to upgrade your existing system.
Up to €2,400 in Combined Solar & Battery Grants
The core SEAI Solar PV Grant remains capped at its maximum of €1,800. By combining the standard solar panel grant with the brand-new battery storage grant, Irish homeowners can now secure up to €2,400 in direct upfront grant support.
When you layer this on top of the 0% VAT rate on solar supply and installations, the upfront cost of transitioning to clean, self-sufficient energy has never been lower.
Newer Homes Now Eligible for SEAI Solar Grants
Previously, newer properties were locked out of standard microgeneration supports. In a massive win for homeowners, the eligibility criteria for the SEAI Solar PV grant has officially been extended to include all homes built and occupied before 2025. If you live in a recently built home, you can finally tap into these lucrative green incentives.
Earn Tax-Free Income from Surplus Solar Electricity
The financial incentives don't stop at installation. The budget also increased the tax-free threshold for selling your surplus electricity back to the grid via the Clean Export Guarantee (CEG). The limit is rising from €400 to €600 per year in tax-free export income.
As a Flogas customer, you can seamlessly generate your own green power, cut your electricity bills by up to 70%, and receive credits straight back to your account completely tax-free.
