The 2nd annual Boyne Boat Race, hosted by Inver Colpa Coastal Rowing Club, was again won by Vartry Rowing Club from Wicklow in a Flogas sponsored boat, ‘Alysha’. The Race was held on Sunday 21st June as part of the 2015 Irish Maritime Festival. Rowing against high winds, the crew crossed the line in 1 hour and 37 minutes, pursued by boats from Edermine Ferry Rowing Club in Wexford, who took both second and third place.

The winners were presented with medals and a trophy designed by local sculptor Ronan Halpin. Vartry Rowing Club chairperson George O’Brien said, “It was pretty windy conditions out there. Along with two other members of our team here today, I took part in the first ever Ireland to France Ocean Row back in May and it was nowhere as rough as this!”

Rowing clubs from Antrim, Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin took part in the challenging 14 km open race which commenced at Clogherhead beach and finished under the shadow of the viaduct at Drogheda Port. All the crews then took part in an Exhibition race, rowing in formation from the viaduct to DeLacy bridge.
