Fuelling Irish Golf – Flogas Irish Amateur Open

Taking place at County Sligo from 16th – 19th May 2019, the Flogas Irish Amateur Open will be one of the stand-out fixtures this year as the leading players from Great Britain and Ireland attempt to pick up a win that will put them in contention for a Walker Cup call-up in September.

Speaking at the launch of the sponsorship for this year, Alan Kelly, Communications Manager with the Golfing Union of Ireland said: “We can’t wait to take the Flogas Irish Amateur Open to County Sligo. Obviously, there is a strong tradition of hosting major events at Rosses Point and bringing our blue riband international event west is an exciting prospect for everyone involved.

“Flogas have brought incredible savings to golf clubs across Ireland and I encourage all clubs to check them out for potential savings across their range of energy options”.

John Rooney, managing director with Flogas Ireland said: “The Flogas Irish Amateur Open is firmly established on the international stage as one of the most historic and prestigious events in the amateur golf calendar and we’re truly honoured to have our company associated with this event over the past three years. This year, the possibility of a call-up to the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team raises the stakes even higher for the players in what is always an exciting tournament.”

Flogas has a strong portfolio of energy offerings for golf clubs throughout Ireland. Golf clubs in the Republic can benefit from excellent rates for business to business electricity, LPG and Natural Gas, while golf clubs in Northern Ireland can avail of its LPG and Natural Gas offerings.

Robin Dawson will be unable to defend his title won at Royal County Down last year as the Tramore man has turned professional and is enjoying a full tour card this season on the European Challenge Tour. The Flogas Irish Amateur Open is one of ten events on this season’s Bridgestone Order of Merit – where the top three at the end of the season will earn an Ireland call-up for the Home Internationals at Lahinch.
