On Sunday 20th May 2018 at Royal County Down Golf Club, John Rooney, managing director, Flogas Ireland was delighted to present the winner’s trophy for the 2018 Flogas Amateur Open to an over the moon Robin Dawson of Tramore Golf Club in Waterford.

Despite the windy weather, which caused some playing drama on the last nine holes, the 22 year old managed to finish four strokes clear of England’s Jamie Gough and Alex Gleeson of Castle Golf Club in Whitehall, Dublin. "I have just been knocking on the door for so long," said Dawson, who was Irish Boys Champion in 2013. "I have so many top 10s in these championships, especially in match play. I have gotten to quarter-finals and semis and been beaten on the last or something like that. But even with stroke play qualifying I know I am always up there. It was nice to do it over four rounds, especially at a venue like Royal County Down."

Flogas Ireland, which began sponsoring the competition in 2016, is now committed to ‘powering’ the blue riband event until 2021. It has a strong portfolio of energy offerings for golf clubs throughout Ireland. Golf clubs in the Republic can benefit from excellent rates for business to business electricity, LPG and Natural Gas, while golf clubs in Northern Ireland can avail of its LPG and Natural Gas offerings.
John Rooney said, “Congratulations to Robin on keeping his cool and keeping the lead, despite the very challenging weather! We are very much looking forward to bringing the competition to Sligo in 2019 and Galway in 2020 and 2021. “
