Flogas distributor Davy Benson of Benson Fuels in Newbay was the co-ordinator of a very special coaching event for a group of clay pigeon shooters in Duncormack on Sat 19 and Sunday 20 July. The two-day event, which was sponsored by Flogas Ireland, was given by world-famous clay pigeon shooter George Digweed MBE on his first-ever visit to Wexford. George Digweed MBE has won the World Championship title a record 15 times and currently the holder of four world records. Said co-ordinator Davy Benson, "A couple of years ago, a group of us went to compete at the World Sporting Championships in the UK and quickly realized that to compete successfully against the UK entrants, we needed a high-calibre teacher to come over to Ireland and intensively coach us. We decided to go straight to the top and recruit George Digweed MBE, a legend in the sport and it is truly an honour to be involved in his first-ever visit to Wexford." Participants in the two-day coaching event also included Davy Benson's son, David (16), who won a bronze medal in the World Sporting Championships at Lakenheath in the UK earlier in July this year. He was part of the three-man Irish Junior team at the World Sporting Championships. Said Davy, "I am delighted for him, it's a fantastic result against a very strong field, which included a top British and American team."
