Flogas and Gas Vend join together to control the cost of outdoor heating Peter Adam of Gas Vend, Dun Laoghaire, Co.Dublin has developed a system whereby pubs can monitor and control their use of gas for patio heaters by way of fitting a simple token-based timer on the heaters. The idea occurred to him after finding out that for 50% of the time heaters are left on, nobody is actually sitting at them.  Flogas and Gas Vend have joined together to exclusively provide this service to customers in the hospitality industry. Gas Vend has already fitted token meters at the Blue Light pub in Barnacullia, Co. Dublin, the 2 Sisters in Terenure and 'Ocean Bar' at 'Grand Canal Dock' in Dublin City. Customers wishing to use the patio heater can get a token from behind the bar and use it to switch on the patio heater for a limited period of time. The customer does not have to pay for the gas but it allows bars to keep waste to a minimum. "If a pub has three heaters, which many of the bigger ones have, they will use about nine cylinders a week that's nearly EUR200 per week". This new system will significantly help to control and lower publicans heating bills as wastage will be greatly reduced.
